Renaat Vandepapeliere aka Renaat
We are excited to kick off CHICAGO CALLING with special series, which is dedicated to people who had a great impact when it comes to discovering new electronic artists and their music and further exposing it to people.
Our first guest is no one else but Renaat Vandepapeliere AKA Renaat. Besides being a great selector and a DJ, Renaat is also known as the founder of now the legendary R&S and Apollo record labels which have been feeding us great releases for over 35 years. Renaat was one of the first to bring Techno sound from the US to Europe and to release and license some of the great acts right when they started. If you look at the release catalog, you will find names such as Aphex Twin, Derrick May, Ken Ishi, CJ Bolland, Kenny Larkin, 69 / Carl Craig, Joey Beltram, Model 500, Dave Angel, Nicolas Jaar, James Blake, Paula Temple to name but a few. Last time we spoke with Renaat he said that he would be excited to play in Chicago and we are looking forward to his U.S. tour.
Enjoy the ride and stay tuned for exclusive mixes from around the globe, much love from Chicago.

Renaat Vandepapeliere is as hungry for new sounds now as he was when he first founded the legendary R&S Records.
Although he has run one of electronic music’s foremost labels for over 37 years, he is still on the voyage of personal discovery and quest for authenticity that has fired the R&S imprint.
Renaat was one of the first to welcome techno when it came from America to Europe in the 1980s, giving a young Derrick May and Joey Beltram a chance at producing and releasing records in Europe. R&S aimed to preserve the true soul in those recording and not water it down to meet the expectations of European audiences. Soon the label was pushing the innovative new sounds of Aphex Twin, Paula Temple, Jaydee, C.J Bolland, The Source Experience/Robert Leiner, System 7, Dave Angel, Ken Ishii, Model 500/Juan Atkins. In 2006 he began another similarly prolific run into the present day that has seen the likes of James Blake, Delphic, Pariah, Untold, Blawan, Vondelpark, Radioslave score hits on the label, while closing the circle with other artists, such as Atkins and his seminal Model 500 project.
